Spectro Solutions

Published on 21 January 2026 at 20:50

A demon tower. A global haunting. A world forever changed.
Three decades ago, a towering monolith burst forth from the earth, tearing open a rift between dimensions and unleashing an onslaught of ghosts, demons, and legendary creatures. Now, encounters with the supernatural have become an unsettling part of everyday life.
In London, England, a seasoned sewer engineer named Alex stumbles upon an elusive energy that will change everything.
With his friends Jamie, Lyndsey, and Gina, he forms Spectro Solutions, a small-time outfit with one mission: fight back against the supernatural threats—and make some money while doing it.
Armed with their homemade 'Spectro-Gear,' they take on the jobs no one else can handle, wrangling ghosts and banishing monsters one case at a time.
When their latest call leads them into uncharted territory, what begins as a routine job quickly spirals into something far more dangerous.
An enigmatic villain is on the hunt for an ancient artifact, and the team soon realizes their fight is about to become much more than just another payday.
For Alex and his friends, this is just the beginning. But for the rest of the world, Spectro Solutions might just be their last chance for hope.

This was a fun read! I have been looking forward to picking up this book for quite some time, again like mentioned before in a previous blog, I had taken a short break from reading and I'm glad this one was one of the couple that I picked up! Although the advertised reading age on Amazon is 9-18. I'm 30 and found it just as entertaining. One of the first elements worth highlighting is the internal illustrations. A special mention to the author for these, they are genuinely brilliant. Beneath each chapter title is a small graphic hinting at what's to come, which adds charm and enhances the reading experience hugely.

The story follows Alex, the main character, who works as a sewer engineer, alongside his friends Jamie and Lyndsey, who leave their 'standard' jobs to throw themselves into the unpredictable world of ghost hunting. Together, they form a ghost-busting team driven not only by the promise of money, but by the fact that they are surprisingly good at what they do. Alex invents a device capable of trapping ghosts, with a whip like contraption, but the concept of all this quickly evolves into something much bigger. As a team, they develop what is essentially a containment 'box' designed to capture spirits and restore piece of mind to the people affected. One of the most unexpected aspects of this book is its humour. I genuinely didn't anticipate laughing at scenes with 'ghosts' until the first one popped up involving a neon-green sewer pig, yet here we are! The unpredictability of moments like this were fantastic, especially when paired with concepts such as the spirits shooting 'goo' at people. Initially, the story feels light-hearted and comedic, and still follows that way throughout. However, the tension increases slightly at around the half-way point where the plot takes a 'darker' turn and the stakes become higher. Once the team officially become 'Spectro Solutions' and expands all of their gadgets, they find themselves constantly called upon to deal with the growing number of spirits haunting London.

As the ghosts begin to deplete, the true antagonist is revealed. Thorne is a powerful and intimidating presence, driven by revenge and determined to unleash all of the trapped spirits through a portal to balance out the plains.

"You think you can hold me? I am Lord Throne! I am the whispered curse in every rose's bloom!"

His mission is nothing short of destruction and the confrontation with him became my favourite part of the book. With the final scenes being very well-paced.

Overall, the book offers strong character development, engaging banter, and great visuals. It blends humour, action and the 'paranormal' in a way that keeps the page turning. Again, as always with a balanced review, I did find the heavy use of similes and metaphors slightly overdone at times, this is a minor critique, especially considering this is a debut novel.  All things considered, this was an enjoyable read, I am very much looking forward to what the Spectro Solution team get up to next!
